What is a Closed Meeting?
Generally, Al-Anon Family Group (AFG) meetings are "Closed," limited to members and prospective members, giving them the freedom to share and listen to the experience, strength, and hope of one another on a confidential and anonymous basis.

What is an Open Meeting?
An Al-Anon meeting may choose to be "Open" by the consent of its participants. An "Open" Al-Anon Family Group (AFG) meeting allows attendance by people who are not families and friends of alcoholics but who are interested in learning about Al-Anon Family Groups (AFG). People who may come to open Al-Anon meetings occasionally include students and professionals who work with alcoholics and their families.

Alateen Meetings are not listed here for the safety of the teens.

Assume that all meetings are closed unless otherwise stated.

Closed meetings are limited to members and prospective members, giving the freedom to share and listen
to the experience, strength, and hope of one another in a confidential and anonymous bases.

Open meetings allow attendance of members, prospective members and also people who are interested in
learning about the Al-Anon Family Groups (e.g.:counselors, health practitioners, etc.).
